The surrounding areas of Phoenix have attracted outdoor types for years. There are desert mountains surrounding the valley for hiking and camping. Just an hour or two outside of the Phoenix valley you can find forested mountains and cooler temperatures. Flagstaff, Tucson, and the White Mountains have skiing during the winter months. Road trips to the Grand Canyon up North and the Mexican beaches down South can be wonderful weekend getaways.
